How Do They Work?

Veneers are a cosmetic dental treatment that uses tooth-shaped porcelain prosthetics to cover the front of your teeth and address issues like tooth staining, gaps, uneven teeth, and slightly crooked teeth. These prosthetics are thin and durable and provide a completely natural look.‍

Veneers attach directly to your natural teeth, so they can cover up a huge variety of imperfections.

First, you’ll come in for a dental examination with Dr. Bancroft. Once you’re approved for veneers, you’ll schedule a follow-up appointment.

At your next dentist office visit, your mouth will be numbed, and a very thin layer of enamel will be removed from the teeth receiving veneers. This layer must be removed to make sure the veneers have a seamless fit. Next, Dr. Bancroft will take impressions and images of your teeth. This information will be sent to a dental lab, where your veneers will be made. You’ll be sent home with a set of temporary veneers.‍

Your permanent dental veneers will be completed in 2-3 weeks and sent to our office. Then, you’ll come in for your final appointment, where each veneer will be checked for the proper fit. 

Are Dental Veneers A Better Option Compared To Other Cosmetic Dental Treatments?

In most cases, veneers are the best option for cosmetic dental treatment, particularly if you have multiple cosmetic flaws with your smile. While veneers are more expensive than other treatments like dental bonding and teeth whitening, they can treat various cosmetic issues. They are extremely versatile, durable, and long-lasting, making them a great long-term investment in your smile.

Why Would I Choose Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain veneers may be a great choice for you if your mouth is healthy and your teeth are strong, but you have multiple, hard-to-treat cosmetic issues, such as large gaps in your smile, very uneven teeth, misshapen teeth, or severe stains which cannot be treated with teeth whitening. Plus, veneers require no special care other than avoiding chewing non-food items using your veneers as tools to open packages. Simply continue to brush, floss, and see Dr. Bancroft for routine dental cleanings and exams.

It is important to note, though, that veneers are not meant to be a restorative treatment. If you have damaged teeth, they will need to be repaired with a treatment like dental crowns before you can have veneers placed.
